having originally worked with shine on designs for merlin prior to it’s commission by the bbc, I was unavailable to work on series one, so it was great to be asked back to design series 3 of the bbc saturday night family adventure drama. for this series i was tasked with pushing the look of the series to a higher level and introducing several new sets and elements whilst maintaining a tight budget. highlights for the art dept included two tournaments and the first appearances of both a round table and the sword in the stone into the camelot legend. this series increased ratings and successfully held it’s own when scheduled against itv’s x factor.

series 4 was production designed by ed turner but i was asked to design two virtual settings for the isle of the blessed and an abandoned throne room. actors and crew worked within a green screen box with foreground and interactive elements designed and built by Ed. the final backgrounds were created digitally from my designs and composited with the live action footage by the mill.
